Top 10 dog-friendly beaches

Hayley Spurway

Top Quote: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Would Get Out of Bed For: A glimmer of sunshine, a dip in the sea, or more likely my 2 year-old tugging off the duvet and demanding a story.

Dirty Secret: Lindor truffles and wine as soon as the kids have gone to bed.

Hot Under the Collar: Wheel clamps – an entirely unnecessary way to spoil anyone’s day.

Quintessentially Cornish: Having drifted to Cornwall to study after a stint in Oz, even a decent job at a travel magazine in London couldn’t keep her away from the beach. Within two years – and thousands of road miles to Cornwall and back – Hayley came ‘home’ and re-trained as a lifeguard but (thankfully, for she was surely only qualified to deal with weaver fish stings) forewent patrolling the beaches and instead forged a living as a freelancer.

Writers Block: Always inventing a way to turn an adventure into a spiel for cash, Hayley has penned all sorts of features and guidebook material for Rough Guides, Punk Publishing’s Cool Places and Cool Camping, Coast magazine, Time Out, Cornwall Today, Wanderlust, The Times and Visit Cornwall. Very soon she’ll get up to date with blogging her family adventures

Get to (the) Point

Ahoy Sailor: Learning to Sail with Mylor Cruising

I can dance a sailor’s jig after a couple of pints of Spingo. I can hoist sails and pull ropes (err herm, I mean ‘sheets’, to use correct nautical terminology). I can even man the helm if I’m told which way to point a boat. But...
