Detox Teas(e)

Mine was always strong black tea with a generous glug of milk. That was until I discovered Earl Grey for fragrant sophistication mid-afternoon. But there is so much more on the tea tour than these two. Let the GCG take you on a tour of the teas you might not yet have in your cupboard but offer up more than just a good taste. These Tregothnan teas have detoxifying properties satisfying that old adage – good on the inside, good on the outside!

Green Tea – Tregothnan Green Tea ticks all the boxes – it is rich in health benefits as well as having an incredible flavour. Our tea grows in inimitable conditions and is from the same type of bushes as those from which Green Tea was first discovered in China. The process of creating black teas varies here, as oxidisation is replaced by steaming so the fresh leaves retain their natural green colour. Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that help fight illness plus nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. It can relieve the feeling of fatigue, boost the immune system, reduce cholesterol levels, and reports show that it can also help you lose weight. It also removes toxins from the body naturally and safely.

Nettle – From the Tregothnan gardens in Cornwall, Nettle is refreshing, aromatic, nutritious, and cleansing, with a fresh natural sweetness and richness. Ask a medical herbalist which herbal infusion they would take if they were to be stranded on a desert island (along with a kettle and a mug) and many would go straight for Nettle. One of the oldest and most popular of all herbal tisanes, it is a perfect winter beverage. Considered the healthiest tea of all, it is full of nutrients including vitamin A and C, zinc, iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium and silica. Aside from being an all-round blood tonic, its excellent anti-histamine properties make it ideal for hay-fever sufferers. It is also commonly used for rheumatism relief or as a detoxifier to remove impurities from the body.

Echinacea – Our Echinacea infusion is a powerful immune booster, making it a wonderful drink for anyone who’s feeling a bit under the weather. Exceptionally good in winter, this magnificent little plant is just what you need to keep colds and flu at bay. It is also good for wound-healing, so sip – and even gargle – our Echinacea infusion if you have mouth ulcers. Echinacea tea can even help reduce fatigue and ease allergy symptoms such as wheezing, runny nose and an itchy throat. And it tastes amazing too! The scent is caramel, the taste is wholesome and sweet. Floral, delicate and refreshing, it is a delightful relaxing beverage to sip at the end of a hectic day and is thought to improve nutrition uptake.

Eucalyptus – Eucalyptus is one of our very finest hearty healthy herbals. Alleviate nasal congestion and maintain clear breathing passages with this infusion created from our Eucalyptus plants plucked on the Tregothnan estate. A great tea for winter maladies, it is both anti-bacterial and anti-viral for effective respiratory support. The ultimate health kick, Eucalyptus has an aromatic menthol scent and a bold astringent flavour, which is nurturing, soothing and vibrant.

All of the above are dairy free, gluten free, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Apart from Green Tea, they are all naturally caffeine free. Available as tea sachets (£4.00 for a box of 10) and loose leaf caddies 25g (£5.25.)
