Diamonds are a girls best friend: KinetIQue ethical diamonds

I am excited to be interviewing a new company who have just launched into the wedding market in Cornwall, KinetIQue offer diamond jewellery that is unrivalled in the UK with a clarity and colour that cannot be matched in quality or price.

Perfect For:
Ethical Diamonds

Their IQ Diamond is a man-made hybrid diamond, and is treated with a special tracer for ethical reasons – otherwise itwould test positive for diamond. This ensures customers receive a high quality
ring with the perfect cut, clarity and colour whilst maintaining ethics – something that Jason and Elaine; owners of KinetIQue think is the ultimate importance.  Meeting the couple who run
KinetIQue, I am struck by their enthusiasm, excitement and their vast amount of knowledge on the subject.

A dark & despicable past

Despite diamonds being used for money laundering, tax evasion and organised crime, Hollywood have marketed the stone successfully to appear rare and beautiful.  Years of advertising by some of jewellery’s leading names and opinion formers, such as Marilyn Monroe – dripping in diamonds, have all remained with us it is some of the best marketing ever achieved. After all, diamonds are all but rare. Approximately 130,000,000 carats of diamonds are mined annually and it’s been reported that if all the diamond mines in the world were to cease operation today, one diamond company alone have stockpiled enough diamonds over the years, that they could maintain current world demand for the next 15-20 years.

DiCaprio’s Blood Diamond

So diamonds aren’t rare, and they aren’t particularly glamorous either.  Remember Leo? A blood diamond is a diamond sold to finance war or terrorism and it is still very prevalent.
Even a certificate cannot guarantee the source of your diamond because it is so easy to get around the system: the entire industry is corrupt. I have grown up adoring the stars of the silver screen: Monroe, Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor… to hear the truth is a little startling.

Ehtical Diamonds

I am fascinated by what I am learning and love their IQ diamond they show me – it is so sparkly and beautiful and I am shocked that it is so stunning, I presumed it would look a little flat, like Cubic Zirconia.  After all, it’s fake right?  Surprisingly it’s not fake – it’s a hybrid: a stone containing real diamond and is as sparkly, as strong and as precious as a diamond – but its guilt free!  Nobody
died to get this diamond, nobody priced it stupidly high and it is a perfect hearts and arrows cut, natural white with an IF clarity (internally flawless, by the way…you learn a lot in this job!).
Not only do KinetIQue offer engagement rings but also wedding rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings – an entire selection!  So, with a quality that is unrivalled and a price that is perfect (it’s not cheap but I like that, after all, I’m paying for something beautiful, pure and honest – just like love, I expect it to come at a cost as long as it’s reasonable) plus a sense of rarity and exclusivity
that only the IQ diamond can offer, I’m sold.  Now to get the boyfriend to look at these…

Surely not all diamond mines in the world fund terrorism. Mine are from a mine in Western Australia, they are stunning and cost $A 300 fourteen years ago. Extremely affordable by most peoples definition. So not too hard to have the real thing and retain your ethics.

    Hi Helen

We’re looking at opening a shop..most likely in Truro, but presently we work from our office in Bodmin.

    Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for your input, but all diamond mining is bad period. There’s not just the humanitarian aspect, there’s the very sensitive eco systems and the serious damage to the environment. This is also conflict since it is in conflict with ethics.

I don’t think you’ll ever get another diamond at that price! China is driving the cost up and for a lump of crystallised carbon…I’d rather not waste money on that. We’re trying to offer a much more eco-friendly and environmentally responsible alternative that compares like for like to the best quality mined diamond.

We had a gemologist/jeweller look at our IQDiamond and he could not tell the difference and that’s saying something, because in his 45 years he’s never seen anything like our IQ Diamond.

If anybody would like to know more, we’ve written a book about debunking the myths of the diamond industry…it’s great bedtime reading…and it’s free.

If Kinetique is as ‘ethical’ as it claims why don’t they speak out against:

Russian diamonds (after, all, don’t the Chechnyans count)?
Indian diamonds (after, all, don’t the Kashmiris count)?
US or UK diamonds (after, all, don’t the Afghans and Iraqis count)?
Lebanese diamonds (after, all, don’t the slave trade victims in Sierra Leone count)?

Why do they only speak out when it comes to the opportunity to target the Jewish state? (as per their facebook page).

How on earth can a self-declared ‘ethical’ company have such a poor moral standing?
