Josie Purcell Talks ‘ShutterPod’

avatar
A review from Locally Sourced

ShutterPod is creating a photographic feast for passionate lovers of the lens-based art and for those who prefer to point and shoot.

Set up by Cornwall-based photographers Josie Purcell and Ben Ellis, whose desire to spread the visual ‘word’ and showcase living life through a lens, this community-led company is the ultimate in photographic events for all.

Visitors and locals alike can make the most of what’s on offer from ShutterPod’s adventurous and quirky workshop and events schedule, which kicks off in 2012 with one of its entertaining photo hunts. These are designed along the lines of a traditional treasure hunt but with a photographic twist, and for a taste you can take part in its ‘Good Fryday’ photo hunt in St Agnes at Easter. There will
even be a few treats to find along the way.

Add in a concoction of days out with a difference, such as alternative processing projects, build-it-yourself pinhole cameras creation, rambles around the county with a camera in hand, portfolio reviews, and analogue Lomo-love, to its mix of photographic goings-on for members and you get a feel of what could develop if you join in with ShutterPod.

But that’s not all. Later this year the ‘Pod Bods’ Ben and Josie will be hosting ShutterPod’s very own photography festival, jammed packed with workshops, speakers, exhibitions and much more. Believed to be the first of its kind in the county it will be the place to be if you love photography. You could even see your work in its exhibition.

Businesses can get onboard too as ShutterPod creates bespoke team-building days that incorporate creativity with problem solving in a fun and engaging way. It also aims to work with a number of community health, education and social organisations to benefit their clients through visual media.

Pop into the Pod and be creative, whatever your photography skill. With its evolving events schedule across the county there is plenty for everyone to get involved in. Details are updated regularly and booking can be made online when the event goes live.

Many thanks to Josie! Words By Josie Purcell
