Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay
The folk-rock singer is one of the highlights of this year’s Relentless Boardmasters music and surf festival based in Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach from August 10 – 14. His distinctive sound was first heard at the festival back in 2007 when he supported Seasick Steve and he’s back to celebrate 30 years of the festival. Other music highlights include Fatboy Slim, Eliza Doolittle, Klaxons, Cloud Control and the Easy All Stars who played this year’s Rock Oyster Festival.
On the surf front, expect local boy and surfing star, Ben Skinner to be making a grab for the Tuaca Longboard Pro title and the $15,000 prize money. For the women, local Newquay resident Candice O’Donnell will be taking on other pros to try and keep the title on home turf. Some of the best international surfers are attending the men’s event, including Kolohe Andino, Roydon Bryson, Maxime Huscenot, Roy Powers and Tom Whittaker.
Our very own Wheal Kitty neighbours, Surfers Against Sewage, SAS, are partnering up with Relentless and Vans (festival sponsors) to offer a Beach Clean every morning. The first ten people to sign up at the Sports Vision office every morning get a special Vans Beach Clean Up pack.
Clear your conscience, throw some shapes to some truly excellent music and watch some of the world’s best surfers carving up the waves of the north coast. See you there.
