When One Sport Just Isn’t Enough

Pull on the goggles, lace up your trainers and pump up your tyres, the inaugural Human Race Festival of Sport is coming this September.

Perfect For:
Sports fans
Athletic types
Opening
Times:
Festival of Sport 14- 16th Sept

Billed as the “Glastonbury” of mass participation sport, the stunning backdrop of St Michaels Mount in West Cornwall is playing host to a magnificent array of sporting events, live music, festival fun, beach sports and children’s activities from 14th-16th September 2012.

From refreshing sea swims over various distances to energy sapping beach runs and lycra friendly bike races along the coast; there is a challenge to suit all abilities from the first timers to the hardcore racers. Of course for those who believe one sport just isn’t enough and just can’t get enough action then there is the challenge of the triathlons over sprint, Olympic and middle distances. You can even enter a team relay to share the experience, or pain in most instances.

To accompany the core swim, bike and run events there is also a programme of beach activities for both teams and individuals. Inspired by the Olympics you can try your hand at beach volleyball or kayaking along with gig rowing and touch rugby.

Naturally after all this sporting endeavour the only way to truly celebrate your conquests is to indulge in a little post-race treat. This is delivered by way of Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts, offering nutritional athlete friendly meals alongside an array of wonderful local produce. In order for all the athletes, families and friends to stay fully hydrated the St Austell Brewery are also in attendance to serve their award winning drinks. Probably best advised to visit here after your events as we wouldn’t want you wobbling on your bikes and seeking out the sea swim merely to clear your head the next day.

If you still have any remaining energy the event’s organisers have teamed up with Pirate FM to deliver two evenings of live music. A line-up of local talent will be delivering a distinct Cornish flavour to your weekend and creating the perfect soundtrack to celebrate your achievements.

As an added incentive, Cornish residents can even receive a 20% discount when entering any of the core events that comprise of triathlon, swimming, running and cycling events during the festival. As well as access to the beach activities and entertainment, all participants will receive a bespoke finishers medal, amazing goodie bag and a welcome massage.

So join me on the start line and say hello if you pass me on the bike. I will be the one gobbling down the jelly babies and slurping copious amounts of energy drinks convinced they will give me super-hero powers to reach the finish line.
